This book is one of a series of Genealogy Reference Books each dedicated to a single progenitor arriving in America in the 1600s. The format for the Reference Books is a Descendant Register Report with an alphabetical Index of Names followed by a standard indented Descendant Report.

The earliest proven progenitor of the Vaughn Family in America was Thomas Vaughn, born in 1720, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Thomas’ ancestral line may very well trace to Thomas Robert Vaughn born in 1524 in Llŷn, a town in Caernarfonshire, Wales, but no connection or proof has been found to date, as the younger Thomas’s father is unknown. An additional possibility is the line may link to John Vaugn and Ann Elizabeth Lingen, both born about 1575 in England. Thomas Vaughn’s ancestral paternal line has been DNA tested and belongs to Y-DNA R1b1a2a1a1b4 or in shorthand notation, R-L21. There is some linkage of this haplogroup to the line leading to John Vaugn.

The Vaughn Paternal Line migration is mapped from the beginnings in the Rift Valley of Africa 140,000 years ago. The DNA based map depicts the migration path of the Vaughn ancestors indicating arrival about 14,000 ago into Eastern Europe from Western Asia through today’s Ukraine and Northern Germany. Russian Emperor Nicholas II belonged to this lineage.
