Records of the Past is a book by British Assyriologist Archibald Henry Sayce, first published in 1889. This is the second of a five volume set that Sayce wrote. Subtitled 'Being English translations of the ancient monuments of Egypt and Western Asia', the series focuses on the ancient writings of the Ancient Near East and Ancient Egypt. This volume includes the Inscription of Uni, the Adventures of Sinuhit, and the Legend of the Expulsion of the Hyksos. Also of interest on the Egyptian side are some of the Tel El-Amarna letters, Babylonian cuneiform tablets found in Upper Egypt, and copies of correspondence between Amenophis III and rulers throughout the ancient Near East. From Mesopotamia comes the brutal Inscription of Assur-natsir-pal, the Moabite Stone and an Akkadian Hymn to the Setting Sun, plus detailed king lists and chronologies.
