Israel's attack Monday on a humanitarian aid flotilla destined to the Israeli-besieged Gaza Strip has plunged the Jewish state into a diplomatic storm with the rest of the world and globalized the Gaza crisis, according to media reports Tuesday. At the same time, the incident, in which at least nine pro-Palestinian activists were killed and some 30 others wounded, has deepened the rift between Turkey and Israel. For the first time Turkey has become deeply involved in what has so far been an exclusive Arab-Israel conflict. The bloody clash on the high seas Monday dominated the Lebanese media, which voiced unanimous condemnation of Israel by Lebanese officials, parties and organizations. Here are some sample headlines: "The Israeli massacre stuns the world" headlined AL MUSTAQBAL, mouthpiece of Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri's Future Movement. After his meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus Monday, the two leaders issued a statement accusing Israel of seeking "to drag the region into war." "Israel assassinates the freedom convoy and the world rebels," headlined the pan-Arab daily AL HAYAT. "Massacre on the high seas," headlined leftist daily AL AKHBAR.
