There are many ways to measure the size of a volcano. You can measure its area, its height, how much lava it spewed out, how much destruction it caused or how many people it killed.
But these measurements can change. A volcano that is still active may get larger. It may blow its top off, leaving a huge crater where once there was a mountain. Even the number of people it killed or the percentage of population can change. Do you only count those who were killed by the initial eruption, or do you include those who died from famine caused by the ash in the air.
Because all of this, it is difficult to determine the biggest volcanoes in the world. However, here are some of the largest, both in their size and in their impact.
Do you know:
What is the biggest caldera in North America?
Which volcano has been erupting continuously for 37 years?
Which is the tallest volcano on earth? Is it taller than Mount Everest?
What is the largest volcano in our solar system?
What is the most often filmed dead volcano in America?

Find out the answers to these questions and more and amaze your family and friends with these fun facts.
Ages 8 and up.
All measurements in American and metric.
