Jesus: The Last Great Initiate
by Edouard Schure

This little book, apparently excerpted from a longer work which included sections on Krishna and Orpheus, is an esoteric look at the life of Jesus, here considered the ultimate of a long distinct 'Initiates.' Schuré (1841-1929) was a French author who influenced Rudolph Steiner, the German founder of Anthroposophy. Steiner also viewed Christ as both an historical individual and as a manifestation of the divine in the human realm.

We are beginning to recognize that Jesus, at the very height of his consciousness, the transfigured Christ, is opening his loving arms to his brothers, another Messiahs who preceded him, beams of the Living Word as he was, that he is opening them wide to Science in its entirety, Art in its divinity, and Life in its completeness. But his promise can not be fulfilled without the help of all living forces of humanity.

01. Condition Of The World At The Birth of Jesus
02. Mary—First Development of Jesus
03. The Essenes—John The Baptist—The Temptation
04. The Public Life Of Jesus—Popular And Esoteric Instruction—Miracles—Apostles—Women
